The castle was built for sightseeing purposes at the top of Nishikigaura, a beautiful scenic spot. From the castle tower, visitors can enjoy a wonderful 360-degree view of the sea, mountains, and islands.
Atami Castle is a sightseeing facility in Nishikigaura, Atami City, Shizuoka Prefecture. It is one of the most spectacular spots in Atami City, offering a panoramic view of the city center and Minami Atami.
Inside the castle, there are many exhibits to enjoy on each floor, including the Samurai Culture Museum, which displays armor, armors, swords, and other items, and the Japan Castle Museum, which exhibits a variety of items related to Japanese castles.
Around Atami Castle, more than 200 cherry trees beautifully bloom from March to April, creating a gorgeous scene as a “cherry blossom viewing spot. Visitors can enjoy the beautiful scenery of cherry blossoms in full bloom at the time of their visit.

This castle fortress did not actually exist historically, but was built in 1959 at a height of 100 meters above sea level in imitation of a Japanese castle fortress.
The castle tower, with its five-story exterior and nine-story interior, is crowned with a golden ornament by Shoun Asano and commands a panoramic view of the city of Atami, Hatsushima, Oshima Island, and the Sagaminada Sea.
On clear days, the Tokyo Sky Tree and Yokohama Landmark Tower can be seen through the telescope on the sixth-floor panoramic observatory, which is 160 meters above sea level.
In summer, the annual Atami Fireworks Festival is held, and special operations are held to allow visitors to enjoy the fireworks from the keep as if they were lords.
Tenshukaku Observation Deck
Located 43 meters above the ground and 160 meters above sea level, the 360-degree panoramic view is the most spectacular in Atami.
You can see not only the city of Atami, but also Yugawara, the Niitsuru Peninsula, Hatsushima and Oshima, and the Izu Peninsula in the direction of Ajiro and Ito on a clear day.
Jet Footbath
From the first floor balcony of Atami Castle, 120 meters above sea level, you can enjoy a spectacular view of Hatsushima Island and the Izu Peninsula.
This is the ultimate relaxation spot in Atami, where you can enjoy the best view while soaking in the footbath. On a clear day, you can even see Izu Oshima.

Samurai Culture Museum
Armor and Japanese swords worn by warriors in battle were gorgeous attire on the battlefield. A number of these items are on display here. Among them, you can see “oddly decorated helmets” with unusual ornaments.
Ukiyo-e Museum
This museum exhibits unique and imaginative Ukiyo-e works. In particular, the caricatures in the exhibition are full of Kuniyoshi’s humor, and his anthropomorphic paintings of the human body are very rare.
