Located in the upper reaches of the Kakita River, the park has an observatory where visitors can observe the “Wakima,” where the water that is the source of the Kakita River gushes forth, and a walking trail where visitors can take a walk while viewing the Kakita River.
The park has two observatories, the first and second, from which visitors can enjoy a view of the “wakima,” where more than one million tons of spring water gushes out every day.
Benefiting from the abundant spring water, the park is home to a variety of precious plants and animals. Children also enjoy playing in the water at the spring water plaza.
The Kakita River is a clear and clean river formed by the rain that falls on Mt. Fuji. The temperature of the spring water is maintained at around 15°C throughout the year, making it cool in summer and warm in winter.
It is also characterized by the presence of the Mishima Baikamo, a native underwater plant.
The main source of the water is the “Wakima” in Kakita River Park, which flows southward to join the Kano River. The surrounding area was once called Izumi Township, and there are dozens of spring water sources.
The flow rate remains almost constant throughout the year, and the river is known for its clear water. With a total length of approximately 1.2 km, it is one of the shortest first-class rivers in Japan.
The Kakita River is one of the three clearest rivers in Japan, along with the Nagara River and the Shimanto River, and has been designated as one of the 100 best waters and a national natural monument.
It is also the second river to be designated as a natural monument, following the Shiokawa River in Motobu-cho, Okinawa Prefecture. The river has also been selected as one of the 100 best-kept secrets in Japan.
The Kakita River Park, which is unique to the river, is being developed not only for its beautiful scenery and significance in protecting and preserving nature, but also as a place for local residents to relax.
