The area is cool even in mid-summer, attracting tourists as a summer resort. The name comes from the fact that fog tends to form in the morning, and the area has also been called “Asagiri Kehara” since ancient times.
The scenery is truly idyllic, with wide expanses of grasslands. It is also a popular spot for sky sports such as paragliding.
Natural flower fields spread from spring, and the famous moon and Japanese pampas grass are beautiful in autumn. It is cool even in mid-summer and much loved by many.
Also worth mentioning is that the geology of the black-bok soil makes dairy farming flourish, and the area is dotted with farms where dairy cows, mainly Holsteins, herd and play.
When visiting, visitors can tour the workshops and warehouses, enjoy a menu of hands-on activities, and pick up delicious souvenirs. Enjoy the bounty of Mt. Fuji while surrounded by refreshing breezes and beautiful scenery.
The area is also historically noteworthy. Settlement of pioneer settlers began in 1193, when Minamoto no Yoritomo’s Fuji Makigari was held, and today it is one of the leading dairy farming areas around Mt.
This area was designated by the government as a “highly intensive dairy farming area” in 1954.
The area has also developed as a tourist facility, and the Asagiri Arena has hosted international events such as Boy Scout encampments and the World Jamboree. Roadside Station Asagiri Kogen is also an important tourist base for the region.
