Shizuoka » Gotemba, Fuji, Fujinomiya
This waterfall spans the Gotomegi-gawa River and is formed by water flowing from upstream and water gushing from the gaps in the lava beds.
The name “Jinba-no-taki” is said to come from the fact that Minamoto no Yoritomo, during his Fuji-no-Makigari (hunting) expedition, set up a camp for the night near the falls.
Taiko (drum) stone
It is also said that on the night Yoritomo and his party encamped near the waterfall, they heard a drumming sound from the basin of the waterfall.
Yoritomo, intrigued by this sound, had his retainers investigate the waterfall basin the next day. The next day, Yoritomo’s retainer sent his men to investigate the waterfall basin and found a hollowed-out stone that looked like the body of a drum. This stone was named “Taikoishi” (drum-shaped stone), and the name has been handed down to this day.
