Origin of the name
The origin of the name of this waterfall, “Oto-no-taki no-taki,” comes from a legend that when Minamoto no Yoritomo was once on a Fuji Makigari hunt and the brothers Soga Sukenari and Tokimichi were secretly discussing avenging their father, Kudo Suketsune, the roaring sound of the falls made them unable to hear each other, but when they prayed to a god, the sound of the falls mysteriously stopped.
