Lake Tanuki

Mysterious lake with a panoramic view of Mt.

Located just west of Mt. Fuji in the vast Asagiri Plateau, the lake has a circumference of about 4 km and a depth of about 8 meters.

The lakeside is famous for cherry blossoms and azaleas in spring, fireflies in early summer, and autumn leaves in fall, and is nationally famous as a mecca for Herabuna fishing.

Visitors can also enjoy a variety of activities such as camping, boating, biking, and hiking.

Fuji is reflected on the surface of the lake, and in winter, snow-covered Gyakusasa Fuji (upside-down Mt. Fuji) can be seen.

With the construction of a dike in 1935, a swamp of paleo-Fuji mudflow uplifted by fault activity was artificially expanded into a man-made lake capable of storing 706,000 m3 of water.

The area around the lake has been developed as a place to get in touch with nature, and visitors can ride a bicycle around the lake. Boat ramps and bicycle rentals are also available.

Lake Tanuki is a spot where you can see the changes of the four seasons and wonderful natural scenery.
