Dogashima Onsen is a hot spring located in a scenic spot representing the west coast of the Izu Peninsula.
It is a relatively new hot spring, gushing out of a borehole in 1962, but it is surrounded by beautiful scenery and has developed into a tourist hot spring resort.
Located in the vicinity of Dogeshima Island, which is known for its sea of large and small islands and strange rocks, many fashionable hotels and modern inns line the streets, and many of them boast baths with a view of the beautiful sea.
The spring is characterized by its calcium-sodium-sulfate hot spring water, which has no salt content despite its proximity to the sea.
There are a total of six day-trip bathing facilities: four Nishi-Izu town-run facilities (Nagisa-no-yu, Shiosai-no-yu, Seseragino-yu, and Sawada Park Open-air Bath), Dogashima Onsen Hotel, and Seiryu, a seaside hidden hot spring.
Sawada Park Open-air Bath” is especially famous for its spectacular view of the open-air baths on a rocky beach, with Suruga Bay spread out below.
Not only can visitors enjoy swimming and fishing, but it is also an ideal base for exploring the coast of Nishi Izu by sightseeing boat.
There are many tourist facilities nearby, including Dogashima Marine and Izu Nature School. The “Tenso-do” Cave, designated as a natural monument, and “Sanshiro-jima”, where the phenomenon of tombolo can be seen, are also scenic spots on Dogashima, also known as “Izu no Matsushima” (Matsushima of Izu).
