Tokaikan is a three-story wooden Japanese-style building located in Ito Hot Springs, and is a cultural facility that preserves the atmosphere of a Showa-era onsen ryokan.
Opened in 1928 as a hot spring inn, the building retains the architectural style of the early Showa period, and the skills of its craftsmen shine through.
Inside, you can see the beautiful traditional architectural beauty that craftsmen competed to create, such as the decorative windows, staircase railings, corridors, and guest room entrances made of high-grade wood such as cypress and cedar, and oddly shaped trees.
In 1997, the inn ceased operations as a hot spring inn, and after Ito City undertook conservation and renovation work, it was reborn as a cultural facility, Tokaikan, in 2001.
We invite you to come and enjoy the beauty of the Tokaikan.
Also, on weekends and holidays only, visitors can take advantage of the all-tiled baths created by local sculptor Toko Morita. With alkaline simple spring water, visitors can enjoy a hot spring bath that is gentle on the skin.
Tokaikan, which retains a strong Showa-era atmosphere, is often used as a filming location for movies and TV programs.
