Shizuoka Prefecture faces the Pacific Ocean and was once known as Izu Province, Suruga Province, and Toe Province. The mountains in the northern part of the prefecture have heavy snowfall, but the Pacific Ocean side is a mild region where the temperature rarely drops below freezing, exceeding 10°C during the daytime even in winter due to the influence of the Kuroshio Current.
